Volunteer for The Way52 Challenge Walk 2026

We need your help on Saturday 18th April

Will4Adventure has been commissioned to organise a 52Km sponsored walk to be completed inside 24 hours, on Saturday 18th April 2026. The route is a linear route linking the railway station in Goring and Streatley, with the Base in Swindon, via the Ridgeway. This isn’t a huge event – maybe 50 participants will take part.

What’s needed?

For this event we need some marshals to support the walkers and runners taking part. If you think you might like to volunteer your time, please read on. (Or if you fancy taking part in this event as a walker or runner – learn more here).

What’s needed, when and how long for?

Take a look at the table below and you’ll see blocks of time. The start times given are the official start times that we would need you to be in place. You will also see times when you can expect to be done by.

If you think you could only manage half the time slot – that is fine. Just mention this in the notes section below.

(Alternatively see a live version of this table here).

The role of marshals

Your role is to help walkers and runners find their way, and to record who passes you and when. Additionally it will be for you to just keep an eye on how people are doing, checking that they look ok. In addition it is possible I will swing by and give you several litres of water to allow people to recharge their own bottles.

Lunch team …

We need a couple of people to run the lunch stop. You’ll be helping Paddy who will be working wonders on his petrol burner, making bacon butties and coffee. You’ll need to set up some chairs and help people to food and drinks available. Also, helping people fill their bottles with water will be required.

Why get behind WAY?

WAY are Swindon’s young person-led charity that delivers high impact, sustainable projects for children and young people, resulting in lasting positive change.

Walkers and runners will each be aiming to raise £500. This helps WAY support one child or young person in Swindon who faces disadvantage for 6 months.
This includes young people in mental health crisis in hospital, those affected by crime and violence, those unable to access education or employment, those from low-income families, and those from marginalised communities.
Help us change the story for Swindon’s children and young people.
