White Peak Wanders, Lathkill Dale (11.5 miles/18.5 km)
The Peak District is a National Park of two halves. The Dark Peak so named for the peat based soil which gives it a dark, sombre look, whilst the White Peak has limestone as its bedrock giving it that brighter lighter look. And a classic hallmark of the White Peak are its dales (a valley in an otherwise hilly area). Starting from Youlegreave this delightful walk follows the stunning Lathkill Dale all the way to Monyash. From here you’ll follow the Limestone Way over the hills and back to Youlegreave. As with all my favourite walks, the scenery is of two halves too – starting out as a riverside walk and finishing as a walk over the hills. The walk is a tad over 11 miles in distance, easy going and with only one cheeky bit that will lead you up a short hill at Cales Dale. Go in the spring – it will be great!
