Adventures and activities for the family
Leave the screens at home and join us for some family adventure activity days. Will4Adventure proudly present these 1 and 2 day family adventures designed for families who want to get some fresh air and try some adventurous activities together. These adventure activity days are varied as well as exciting and can include rock climbing, abseiling, weaseling, orienteering, camp craft, mountain biking and for fitter/more adventurous families, mountain scrambling. Outdoor kids are happy kids!
Activities available:
Abseiling
We know that many kids think abseiling will be BRILLIANT but that when they’re faced with the reality, that their courage may evaporate! So that your children can get the most from this adventure we build up the level of seriousness slowly. We start by showing you the fundamentals on an easy-angled slope. From here we move on to a low wall, where the kids get their first adrenaline rush going over an edge. Following several abseils at this level, we graduate to a high open quarry wall. We think we’re unique with this gradual approach, and you can pretty much be guaranteed that everyone will enjoy the adventure at some level.

Mountain biking
The Peak District has an abundance of mountain biking trails to suit all levels of riders. Many routes are car-free and so they are perfect for your children to enjoy. You don’t need to have your own bicycle either since many hire shops will have something for all ages too. For the first-time-cyclist we recommend a 12 mile circuit around Derwent and Ladybower Reservoirs with a picnic at Slippery Stones – an idyllic location for picnicking, paddling and swimming. The going is easy and the hills never too steep. For the thrill seekers and more experienced mountain bikers we have technical trails and legendary descents to get your teeth into. Either way a mountain biking adventure beckons!

Mountain bike hire in the Peak District
We’ve listed here a few places that offer higher spec mountain bikes for hire. Typically you can expect to pay around £35 per day for hiring a decent bike from these places. For families looking to do a circuit of the reservoirs, lower spec bicycles will be perfect and cost closer to £20 for the day.
Weaseling
“What’s weasling!?” people ask. This is a great way to introduce all children to exploring and climbing outdoors on (and under) low outcrops of rocks. For kids who have not had many opportunities to spend time in an adventurous environment this activity provides just the right level of excitement and adventure. With weasling your kids get to explore and crawl over and under boulders of rocks, inventing their own adventures. The toughest part is to keep up with them! This is a great half day activity.

Mountain scrambling days (for fit/experienced families)
For fitter families with a good background in the outdoors, and where everyone has a good head for heights, we thoroughly recommend that you join us for some days scrambling in Snowdonia or the Lake District. Scrambling is exciting, it’s airy, it’s exposed, it’s exhilarating, and most of all it’s simply a GREAT way to ascend a mountain. Seasoned families will LOVE these days out.
Ideal for families with children aged from 4 and up. Bespoke packages for these mini adventure holidays can be arranged for all families for days in the Peak District, the Lake District and Snowdonia.

Adventure walks
A walk is just not going to be enough to inspire or to excite most kids, so we take them on an adventure! For children that are capable of walking up a big hill, we love leading this excellent adventure walk to the top of the Peak District’s biggest and highest hill – Kinder Scout via a lovely scramble up Crowden Clough. Especially perfect for a hot summer’s day, this walk offers some easy gorge walking, splashing and boulder hopping and some simple scrambling to get to the top of this mighty hill. It’s a really good day out and always enjoyed by all.

Rock climbing
When you book a rock climbing day with us, we can offer a day of activity to best suit your family. For those of you completely new to rock climbing we’ll break the day into three phases, keeping the activity levels high. The day begins by learning some basic techniques, bouldering on low easy rocks. We then head to a short quarry wall and introduce you to the ropes with a short easy abseil. Lastly we head to a local quarry to try a selection of graded climbs for the finale!
Experienced families with older children maybe, might prefer a day of rock climbing developing further skills and confidence outdoors on one of the many gritstone crags in the nearby area. Whatever your previous experience or goals, we will work hard to meet them!

Orienteering
Perfect as a background activity, or as a treasure hunt in its own right, we can set up and lead orienteering courses tailored to your level of experience. Using a free app, your smart phone becomes the means through which you can follow a course and check on your progress. With larger groups broken down into teams this activity works a treat!
