Testimonials & Feedback for our Acrophobia & Fear of Heights Course
“This course has the perfect blend of psychology, practical tips and explorations, and positivity – all carried out in wonderful surroundings and in a small group with other like minds, learning and sharing with each other also part of the experience…” Claire, May 2025
“I entered the course genuinely terrified of heights, to the point it was stopping me enjoying many things that “normal” people take for granted. I truly believed that was me for life… and I was getting worse all the time… Cut to a few months after and I’m borderline addicted to trying to challenge myself against heights. Any chance I get to look over a ledge – I’m there!” Matt, Aug 2025
“I took this course at the weekend. Hand on heart, it’s transformative. Will and Alison are superb; knowledgeable and experienced. Most importantly, they deliver the course in an incredibly kind, patient and human-centred way.” … “Those two days have opened up new pathways and has begun the process of dismantling the barriers that stopped me doing the things I want to do in life…” Colin, May 2025

What do we do on this course to help you with your acrophobia and to overcome your fear of heights?
This is a gradual process and it does not force you to do anything you don’t want to or that you’re not happy to do.
The course begins with an indoor session with our clinical hypnotherapist, Alison, and we look at why you have a fear of heights and at re-writing the narrative. With the help of light hypnotherapy you develop new connections in your brain that will allow you to use the rational, intelligent and calm part of your brain, to help you overcome and manage your fear of heights.
Anyone else running this therapy would end the treatment there … But not us.
Following this first session we now head outdoors and start again. Outdoors we use a very powerful, practical and concrete approach: exposure therapy. Exposure therapy is widely recognised to be the best treatment for acrophobia. Through a series of phased and incremental exercises we develop your trust and confidence in your leader, your equipment, your skills and then … in yourself.

This course aims to achieve its objectives through three phases
- The Morning of Day 1 – A session of therapy with Alison, a specialist therapist in this field.
- The Afternoon of Day 1 – Out to the Peak District. By this stage your subconscious mind
will have made vast progress, but on a conscious level you won’t be so sure. We use a
system of graduated activities outside to demonstrate to you how far you have now come. - All of Day 2 – This phase further consolidates upon your progress and we continue to
offer you opportunities to gain positive experiences at height.
Our course is unique – here’s why
We don’t just run a therapy session indoors. Following the first session, we use our outdoor expertise as a medium through which you can further consolidate the progress made indoors. We now head outdoors and start again: this time using CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy), or Exposure Therapy. With highly specialised leaders, we help you understand your brain, and then help you to develop your confidence with heights.

How do we know we’re doing things right?
Well first of all – everyone’s beaming smiles at the end of a course speak volumes. Then there are the hundreds of 5 star reviews on TripAdvisor and Google – please do see what people say about our Overcoming Fear of Heights courses, and finally people keep in touch with us and tell us how they’re doing.
We have been running these courses since 2005 and we’ve been learning and getting better at what we do throughout all of that time.
We are confident that for most people (easily 90% plus) this two day Fear of Heights course will be life-changing in a profoundly positive way; sometimes beyond a Fear of Heights too (check this post on Instagram as an example)
Is this course a rock climbing course really?
No it definitely is not. We don’t expect people to come on this course who have any experience of rock climbing (because you have a fear of heights). We do however use our skills as rock climbing instructors to make high places safe. (This is our bread and butter). We use the heights of the Peak District purely as a medium through which we can work with you. This is not a rock climbing course and we don’t expect you to have any experience as rock climbers or necessarily to ever want to rock climb. (Though people do change their minds!)
Is this course suitable for all ages and all abilities?
We aim to make all of our courses as inclusive as possible, for all ages and abilities. If you are in doubt whether you can do this Fear of Heights course then just contact us and we will be able to advise you as to the course’s suitability for you in particular. Call Will directly on 07791 860 163 (you might like him!). In the event that Will’s hands are tied please do leave a message and he, or one of our friendly team, will get right back to you as soon as we can.
Do you want to get over your fear of heights?
We get it. It’s the classic Catch22 situation: if only you didn’t have a fear of heights, you’d book onto this course …
Even the thought of doing this course is scaring you. Taking the action to book the course can be harder. If this is you then we totally understand and empathise. But take heart, if you join us for this course, it will be life changing for you, in a very positive way. We are a small team, with many many years of experience we’re really good at what we do, and we’re dedicated to looking after you. You will be safe. You will not be forced to do anything beyond what you want to do. And you will feel (beyond) great at the end of it.
If you are still not sure whether to book, then give Will a call – he’s not a salesman, he loves what he does and can answer any of your questions without any ‘hard-sell’. Will4Adventure has been built on Will’s passion, enthusiasm, skills, and experience. He’s an easy going, great person to talk to 07791 860 163
