Volunteer for The Chapter2 Fathers Day Challenge 2026

We need your help on Saturday 20th June

Will4Adventure has been commissioned to organise a 50 mile sponsored walk to be completed inside 24 hours, on Saturday 20th June 2026. The route is a circular route linking the Hope Valley, with the gritstone edges, Chatsworth Park, Bakewell & Monsal Trail, High Rake and the River Derwent. This isn’t a huge event – maybe 50 participants will take part.

What’s needed?

For this event we need marshals, cooks, plus a driver too. If you think you might like to volunteer your time, please read on. (Or if you fancy taking part in this event as a walker or runner – learn more here).

To say thanks, we’re offering you a day (or two), of rock climbing, mountain biking, or scrambling in Eyri …

Look at the table down below and think about where you can cover and when. Stick to one colour, and for each block you cover you’ll earn a day’s adventure with us. So if you decide to cover the role of marshal C and E you can join us for two days of adventure. And these adventure days are properly run courses, just is if you were a paying customer, working at ratio of 1:4.

Charity challenge event Peak District 2018

What’s needed, when and how long for?

Take a look at the table below and you’ll see blocks of time. The start times written in bold ink are the official start times that we would need you to be in place. You will also see times when you can expect to be done by. (Alternatively see a live version of this table here).

The role of marshals

Your role is to help walkers and runners find their way, and to record who passes you and when. Additionally it will be for you to just keep an eye on how people are doing, checking that they look ok. In addition it is possible I will swing by and give you several litres of water to allow people to recharge their own bottles.

Cook team …

I need three people to run the halfway house in Youlegreave, at the scouts hut. You’ll need to set up tables and heat up food (pre-cooked). When walkers arrive they need

  • to be registered as having arrived, and the time this happened
  • to be served food & drinks
  • help filling their water bottles

When everyone has passed through, you need to clear everything away, sweep and clean the floors. (And give yourselves a big pat on the back).

Support Driver …

From about 4pm to 2am I will need someone to drive a hire vehicle in order to collect and pick up tired, exhausted walkers who can do no more. It is likely you’ll be equipped with a 9 seater MPV. You’ll need to have a squeaky clean licence, have a working charged phone, and be familiar with the area (or at least a wiz at navigating with Google maps).

Often, you won’t be driving at all. You may quite regularly be collocated with a marshal chewing the cud. Or just reading the papers. Or having a kip.

Runner support role …

From experience we know that some people will want to run the distance and might get round in 10 – 12 hours. Those people need support that is out of sync with the rest of the event, and we aim to offer them a bespoke service. To that end we need 1 or 2 people to work closely with those runners from about 7am until maybe 4pm meeting them at locations where a marshal has yet to turn up, forever ready with a smile, spare socks and some fluids maybe. You will need to have your own car, and be familiar with the area.

Who is the charity this is for?

The walk is taking place in aid of Chapter2, who believe passionately that every boy should have a good man to guide him into adulthood and so their aim is to provide a male mentor and a community of men, for boys growing-up without a father. It is arguably the single one thing we can do to improve the life opportunities of boys without fathers. Learn more here.
